Getting Medieval

medieval fancy dressThe whole ‘medieval fantasy’ genre is pretty much booming right about now. Lord of the Rings has just come back from a nice long break with the boundless enthusiasm of the Hobbit (in trilogy form! Not sure how that’ll work…). And if you weren’t watching Game of Thrones the other night you’re going to be pretty lonely in TVland, according to the viewing figures. If you’re still waiting for it then maybe skip this post, since important plot points may be contained within terrible puns.

For everyone who did see, you have to hand it to them for a good episode, right?

Usually you’re limited to one LotR per year, and waiting a whole week for Game of Thrones is hardly convenient. Fortunately, you can immerse yourself in the magic of fantasy medieval culture all the time with Fancy Dress Shack, thanks to our wonderful range of medieval costumes!

Whatever your fancy may be, we probably have something on hand to suit you well. Try your hand as a medieval knight. With tunic, trousers, hood, boot covers and belt, you’ll look the part in no time. Just remember to grab a toy sword for the occasion, no-one likes their knight to be disarmed, after all.

There are plenty more knight and archer costumes, but not everything has to be violent, you know? The Queen and Fair Maiden costumes are a little less aggressive, and the Medieval Jester costume is always good for a laugh. So feel free to drop us a line if you’ve got any questions, and we’d love to see pictures of you suited up.

Finishing off the Football

childrens fancy dressWell, the season’s been fun enough so far, but there’s only four games to go. No matter which team you’re holding a candle for, you’d best be showing some support during their last few games of the season, especially the away games. And we all know what showing support means, at least when the advice is coming from Fancy Dress Shack.

It means dressing up, ideally like an absolute fool. There’s nothing to get you into the spirit of the occasion like dressing up as… pretty much anything, really. We’ve got the full complement of St George and England Fancy Dress, but it’s not England playing, so you’ll need to be unique.

So why not dress up like… a Cyberman? From Doctor Who? At first glance, you may assume that Cybermen have little to nothing in to relate them to a football tournament. But you forget that every Cyberman was once a human, and quite possibly a football loving human! That’s enough for us, so buy a Cyberman costume this second.

Or… you could be a Bumblebee! Again, you may assume bumbles are not famed for their close association with the noble sport of football, but you’d be wrong again. Because actually, Norwich City commonly wear yellow shirts, making bee costumes completely relevant.

And finally, you could dress your child up like a dragon, and bring them along to the game. This is appropriate garb because football is pretty cool, and your child will also feel pretty cool once they’re dressed up like a dragon.

If you have any criticisms of our football fancy dress choices, please make an order on our site to demonstrate your preferred options.

A Special Treat for our Leicester Fans…

Now, we regularly ship to locations across the country, because that’s our job. So we understand that you’re not all fortunate enough to be based in the metropolitan wonderland that is central Leicester.

create your own zombieBut some of you are, and we feel like we don’t share enough secrets with you. We’re based in Leicester, you’re based in Leicester… we’ve got so much in common already. So we figured it’s about time we told you about a downright special event taking place right here this weekend, where we happen to be based!

We are, of course, talking about ZOMBIE EARTH. It’s a fun looking get together, taking place at night in the city centre. Multitudes of volunteers take to the streets as zombies, while the pay-to-play survivors attempt to avoid the zombie hordes and show of their urban orienteering skills in an attempt to reach safehouses and hunt treasure.

So there you have it, we shared something special with you, Leicesterites. But the rest of you out-of-towners are probably feeling a bit put out. There isn’t a zombie event happening in your town over April and early May, so it’s rude of us to discuss it, right?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ve got a nice batch of create your own zombie costumes, or a more standard complement of zombie costumes for those of you just wanting to throw one out and get back to scaring.

As ever, contact us if you’ve got any questions about our products and services, we’ll be more than happy to lend a hand.

Fancy Dress St George

Just under a week to go until our favourite national holiday! Well… our favourite national holiday that everyone has become inexplicably indifferent towards, at least.

st georges dayYou realise St George’s day used to be a pretty huge deal, right? In the 1400s people just treated it like second Christmas, and they had plenty of reason to! Firstly, he straight up murdered a dragon, secondly, his holiday is easy to remember. If you can’t keep track of 23/4 then you skipped a few years of necessary education.

But since the 1800s people have just stopped caring. We don’t have feasts for St George, we don’t even wear a fancy red rose on our lapel anymore. In honesty, St George’s day is horrendously underappreciated, but fortunately Fancy Dress Shack are set to give it some serious loving this year.

A rose won’t be enough to make up for lost time, you need to step it up with some St George’s day costumes. Don the St George Hero Costume, and get into character as the master dragon slayer himself. Alternatively, don the St George Beer Hat, and celebrate a hearty day of flying reptile murder.

Assert yourself with a St George Inflatable Hammer, or doll up with the St George Babe Wig, for your own personal interpretation of St George as a pretty lady.
Basically, there’s a lot of fun to be had on April 23rd, even if they refuse to make it a ‘proper’ holiday. Be sure to dress up for the occasion.

Warm Nights, Bright Lights

Yes, we know, it’s not the best spring ever. You can tell because it’s still occasionally taking the time to snow. But for the most part, things seem to be warming up. There’s no need to be wearing thick winter coats all the time, and it’s actually becoming possible to head outside for a night out.

glow in the dark sunglassesWe’re as surprised as you are, but it’s a nice surprise nonetheless. From bar crawls to barbeques we don’t have to be quite so scared of enjoying the night air, but just because it’s dark is no excuse not to stand out, which means it’s time to take a look at our night time accessories!

There’s nothing like throwing on some rave gear to distinguish yourself, and we’ve got plenty to keep you lit up. Some of our favourites round the office are the varieties of glowing sunglasses. From empty glow-stick frames to LED light ups, there’s more than enough to go around. The benefits of the range are summed up nicely by our favourite product reviewer, Connor Nixon, who concluded; “their glasses that glooooowwww!!!!!”, in his four star review of our Glow in the Dark Sunglasses. For that level of excitement we might have asked for five… but we’re still glad you enjoyed them!

We’ve got the standard assortment of glow sticks, along with light up swords, batons and ‘Space Disco Microphones’, for all you vocalists with a passion for space disco. Pick up some glowing snap-to-glow bracelets and necklaces, or upgrade to a flashing set of teeth.

Take a look through our stock, and see if anything strikes your light-up fancy. Got any questions? Just drop us a line and we’ll be happy to help.

But there’s not just the London Marathon to be thinking about, there are dozens of events this year ready for you to turn up, dress crazy, keep fit and raise money. The Edinburgh Half Marathon rolls about on the 26th May, with The Great North Run held on 15th September this year.

As ever, we hope you have a great time, and manage to raise money for a good cause. If you’re looking for any more costume and ordering advice, just give us a call!
